Swallowtail, Embossing and Stampin’ Up!

All Posts

1 Feb

Hidy Ho Stampers,

What could go together better than the Swallowtail stamp set, heat embossing and Stampin' Up!?  Well maybe peanut butter and marshmallow also known as a FLUFFER NUTTER (my favorite sandwich)! mmmmmm

wrinkle free

So here is what I came up with while eating my fluffer nutter sandwich.  I needed a card for a very very dear friend who lost her dad yesterday.  I hold her near and dear to my heart and needed something soft (it really looks prettier in person but this is what I've got for ya today!).  I've been doing my series on "speedy stamping, speedy stamping" and I think I can fit that one into that category!

Supplies can be purchased 24/7 from my online store www.stampladee.stampinup.net :

Stamp Set:  NEW Swallowtail  stamp set #129213 wood mount or 129216 clear mount

Ink:  #102283 VersaMark stamp pad along with So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery and Pretty In Pink for sponging

Cardstock:  Whisper White and Very Vanilla

Accessories:  #125590 Vanilla Scented Embossing Powder, #129053 Heat Tool, #120999 Very Vanilla Seam Binding, #101610 sponges, #104430 dimensionals

Like I said earlier, this card is sooooo elegant.  It's a white, vanilla, white card.  If you've not done this combination before, go do it right now!!!  Do a speedy card, speedy card!!!  Just beautiful.

This stamp, Swallowtail, I will have to say scared me a little…NO BUTTERFLY IS THAT BIG!!!! or at least not here in New York, we have cute small butterflies when it's not 20 degrees below zero!!!  So I held off buying it.  THEN…like some of you, saw things that people did with it and sure enough, it was on my next order and I'm so excited that I did!!!

I inked up my stamp with VersaMark and stamped it on the 3 3/4" x 5" Whisper White cardstock.  I immediately poured on the Vanilla Scented embossing powder and heated it up with my Stampin' Up! heat tool.

Take your stamp pads (So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery and Pretty In Pink) and your Stampin' Up! sponges and softly sponge in and around the butterfly.  It will make the butterfly pop out and add some soft color at the same time.

Take that layer, put your dimensionals on the back and adhere it to the 4 x 5 1/4" Very Vanilla layer; wrap around your Very Vanila Seam Binding (I used a about 20" of ribbon so I could tie a nice bow); take those layers and adhere them with dimensionals to the Whisper White Card that is cut 4 1/4" x 11".

Hi Deb.. thanks so much for sharing your pretty card, and for including the technique instructions 🙂 I just love the effect the sponging had against the embossed butterfly.  Really lovely.  I hope you won't mind if I create one for myself.  Have a great weekend!

Deb, this is a beautiful card!  I'm sure your friend loved it.  I've seen some wonderful uses of this stamp, but this is by far the most beautiful I've seen.  I ordered Swallowtail today.  Thanks for sharing your card and for taking the time to give us step-by-step instructions.  You are in inspiration!

I just love, love this butterfly, Deb!  I was intimidated by the size of it, too – until I used it 🙂   I really must recreate your card, it's so beautiful.
You gave me such a flashback to my childhood with the marshmallow fluff – I haven't had that since I was about 7!  Wonder if I can find it in the stores….  now you having me craving butterflies & fluff! 🙂

Can you tell me the size of the butterfly? It looks large but i am hoping that it is more than 3″x4″. Where can i get the dimensions of the image? Thank you.

Hi Marci, the Swallowtail is a background stamp. Our background stamps measure 4 1/2″ x 5 3/4″.  It’s bigger than you are looking for.  If you have any questions, let me know.  deb  www.stampladee.stampinup.net for all your shopping needs.
