A Twist to Reverse Masking with Deb Valder

All Posts

28 Jul

Well Hidy Ho Stampers and good morning,

Been playing with my new stamps using a few old techniques using a little twist and love the way the cards came out.  So out with the old!

drive in speakers

remember these!?  Do you even know what they were for?

Did your dad try to drive off with them still in your window?  OUCH!

and in with the new!

earbuds

headphones/earbuds!

Do you remember how to do the masking technique?  It was one of the very first techniques that I learned.  You take an image and stamp it on paper.  Then you take that same image and stamp it on a very thin piece of paper (like typing paper) and cut it out.  Lay that over the image and stamp something bigger right on top of the image.  When you lift the mask, your image is untouched and you’ve got this amazing background that surrounds your first stamped image.  Well that is what we call “masking”.

Reverse masking is where you take that “negative”, the part that you would have thrown out and we are going to use it as the main piece. The twist comes in when you add a stamped image into the reverse part.  There is a video below to show you step by step.  Let me show you some samples….

Your cards are beautiful – love bringing back old techniques. And I do remember the drive-in speakers. One of my fondest memories as a kid at the drive-in was Easter Sunrise Service with my mom and sister in the car.

Deb, this is fantastic, as always! I will be using this for next month’s technique. This month is double embossing with folders or I’d use it this month! Just beautiful.

OMG! Your cards are stunning! I just LOVE them! Thanks ever so much for sharing the video with us! Your other videos are great too! I’m surprised at how little snail you use when you put your layers together! I’m going to start doing that so I won’t use so much! Thanks again!
